WJLA television, Linda Mathes, CEO and Joe Carden. Oscar Night Chair  A night filled with glamour, excitement and fun proved to be a gold statuette success for the American Red Cross in the National Capital Region.
“Joe Carden, chair of Red Cross' Oscar Night®DC event and VP of Homeland Security & Defense Business Council, did a fantastic job, said Linda Mathes, CEO.of the American Red Cross in the National Capital Region. “He engaged his volunteer committee, corporate sponsors and over 400 people from the community to celebrate great talent and great movies while supporting services for the people of this community at the same time. The setting was spectacular, the food was wonderful, and people of from throughout the region enjoyed being a part of this unique event. Many participants already have asked to be a part of the event next year. The real winners of the evening are the people of our community who will receive essential Red Cross services as a result of the support generated." Arch Campbell, WJLA and Joe Carden, Oscar Night Chair The event was held at the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, D.C. It was the only official Academy-sanctioned Washington, D.C. Oscar Night® DC viewing party. This event is one of the major fundraising activities for our Red Cross region. Emcee for the evening was ABC7 WJLA reporter, Pamela Brown and it was covered live by WJLA's Arch Campbell. Sponsors were: Pricewaterhouse Coopers,BAE Systems, Homeland Security & Defense Business Council, and National Beer Wholesalers Association are Walk of Fame sponsors; National Rural Electric Cooperative Association and Telcordia Technologies are Producer sponsors; and 133 Public Affairs and Joseph Allen Images are Friends of the Red Cross. For the third year in a row, DC Magazine is the media sponsor of Oscar Night DC. A multitude of others donated gifts for the silent auction and swag bags. |

Come to play...Come to watch...Come to volunteer... The Thomas Jefferson Community Center, Arlington, Virginia, is home to this two-day community basketball tournament to benefit the American Red Cross. In addition to great competitive basketball, you will find activities for children, a Best Legs Contest, and a silent auction. It’s lots of fun in a family friendly atmosphere. Exhibition games will be provided by: NOVA United Senior Women’s Basketball Association AND The Wheelchair Basketball Teams from Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Tuesday, September 15, 2009  The Homeland Security & Defense Business Council and the American Red Cross of the National Capital Area hosted the third annual Partners in Preparedness Symposium and The CEO Summit. This event addressed the increasing threats to organizations surviving and maintaining business continuity. It served as a clear reminder that one thing determines a business' survival: preparedness. What your company can and must do before an emergency occurs could very well determine the impact on your facility, your data and your personnel - your outcome. |
